Dr. Peggy Buffington, Superintendent, will welcome representatives from the Hobart VFW and student winners of their annual contests. The Patriot's Pen Essay Contest is for middle school students, and the Voice of Democracy Contest is for high school students and are voice recorded speeches. Jake Paulson from the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) will be present to speak about the two contests.
Their essays are excellent and will be read at the Board meeting. The winners from the middle school for the Patriot Pen Essay Contest are as follows: First Place: Kristijan Stojkoski, Second Place: Layla Lucas, and Third Place: Ryan Granzow. In addition, the middle school winners read their speeches at the annual Veterans Ceremony held Veterans Memorial Park.
The winners from the high school for the Voice of Democracy Contest are as follows: First Place: Tristan Douglas (Merrillville High School), Second Place: Annabelle Fraley, and Third Place: Michael Dooling .
The student essays are attached, and certificates of recognition will be presented to them and the VFW. We are proud of these students and extend our congratulations to them and the VFW.
As a thank you honoring the men and women who have served or are still fighting for our country, all schools held celebrations for Veterans Day on Monday, November 11. |
