Summary:
|
Dr. Peggy Buffington, Superintendent of Schools, will highlight a grant from Geminus for the Building Brickies Program. The Building Brickies Program is a 2021-2022 recipient of a $15,000 grant from the Geminus Corporation’s Community Partners for Child Safety program. This grant will fund a Mindful Parent Connect Program that will consist of multiple 9-week parent sessions using Northwestern University’s Mothers and Babies curriculum. This curriculum is an evidence-based program that is one of two interventions recognized federally for the prevention of postpartum depression. This program also works to alleviate depressive symptoms for parents of children of all ages. Building Brickies will receive training through Northwestern University and will collaborate with them to collect data on the following objectives:
• Parents will have an increase in social support.
• Parents will increase the amount and intensity of tools to improve mood
• Parents will increase their participation in pleasant activities
• Parents will see a decrease in depressive symptoms
• Parents will increase positive parenting behaviors in parent/child interactions and receive referrals to other resources.
The school district appreciates that the Building Brickies program received the grant that will continue to provide services for the families that their program supports.
