Summary:
|
Nancy Smith, Food Service Director, will highlight a grant that the Food Service Department received. The School City of Hobart Department of Food Services completed an application with No Kid Hungry/ Share Our Strength, for support in expanding our Summer Food Service Program and doing our part to end childhood hunger.
Our proposal focused on getting back into the community to be with the kids one on one. Getting our program into the neighborhoods shows families that we are here for the. Building relationships with the kids leads to them wanting to visit our cafeterias which in turn leads to better nutrition for our students and healthier students make better learners.
We were awarded a grant for $50,000 that will used to purchase a new cargo van, a lift gate for the van, and have the vehicle wrapped for BRICKIE recognition. This van will become a part of our mobile fleet during the summer months and throughout the school year.
The project will be delayed a bit due to the pandemic making some items difficult to get, but we should have the project completed by August 2021.
I want to recognize Terri Saltzman of Purdue University, Community Wellness Coordinator and her help steering the direction of our project outlined in our application.
